DISCOVERING BUDDHISM/Module 1: Mind and Its Potential

Vezi pe Facebook

The study of Buddhism is the study of your mind, or consciousness.
Knowing the mind is fundamental to your understanding of all the teachings and methodologies that have come down to us from the Buddha himself, and all the other teachers who have followed in his wake.
That is the reason this is the first course in our yearly program.

In this module you willl examine the meaning of “mind” according to Buddhism, its nature and function, and how it determines our experience of happiness and suffering. Explore the differentiation between mind and brain, how mind is the creator of our experiences, and the implications of possessing a mind that has no beginning and no end. Learn methods to transform destructive thoughts and attitudes and develop a more positive and joyous mind.

Mike Murray is an FPMT registered teacher qualified to teach Buddhist Introductory, Foundational and Basic courses, as well as other Buddhist topics of an equivalent level. He is the Spiritual Programme Coordinator of Jamyang Buddhist Centre London.

Mike has around 40 years of experience in Buddhist study and practice in the Tibetan Buddhist Geluk tradition inspired by his main teachers Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, The Ganden Tri Rinpoche Lobsang Tenzin, and Geshe Tashi Tsering, Ganden Zong Rinpoche, Tsenshap Serkong Rinpoche, Serje Khensur Jampa Tegchok, Geshe Namgyal Wangchen.

This all sounds pretty serious, so please remember as you embark upon this journey, above all, your study and practice should be enjoyable. It should be fun.
