Online teachings in English (zoom)
We invite you on Sunday, March 26th, between 11:00 – 13:30 (Romanian time) to take part in the meeting with the venerable Buddhist monk Losang Gyaltsen, who will guide us in meditation on Lamrim – Small Scope – and will answer your questions.
In the 11th century, Tibet was blessed by the arrival of the Indian Buddhist master Lama Atisha. Motivated to present an organized summary of the sutra teachings, Atisha composed a short text entitled “The Lamp of the Path”. Three hundred years later, Lama Tsongkhapa expanded upon this text with his work “The Great Exposition on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment” (Lamrim Chenmo). We often refer to “Lam-Rim teachings” which are taken from this seminal text.
Lamrim is a Tibetan Buddhist textual form which presents the stages in the complete path to enlightenment as taught by Buddha.
The teachings are presented in three scopes according to the capacities of varying practitioners — small, medium and great — which organize practices and meditations on the path into gradual stages.
The Small scope practices are precious human rebirth, death and impermanence, sufferings of the lower realm and culminating in refuge and understanding karma. If we do the small scope practices well we will not be reborn in the lower 3 realms of hell, hungry ghosts and animals. That is the aspiration.
One aspires to have better rebirth on the Small scope, Liberation on the Medium scope and Buddhahood on the Great scope.
Anyone can attend, but you’ll get the most benefit if you have a basic knowledge of Buddhism or if you have attended previous meditation workshops.
About the teacher
Venerable Losang Gyaltsen grew up in Paris and left his corporate job in 2007 when he moved to Nalanda Monastery, France, to study and practice Buddhism full-time. He was ordained as a monk in 2010. He studied and completed the Basic Program from 2008 to 2012 at Nalanda, ending with a 3 month Lamrim retreat. In 2013 he started the Masters Program and became Director of Nalanda Monastery.
